Hello, MSGL Families,

Before tonight's (May 18, 2023) annual MSGL corporation meeting (which coincides with the annual picnic), I want to communicate that changes have occurred on the MSGL Board this spring. These changes have previously not been communicated to the entire MSGL community. I'm sorry for not making the community aware of the changes sooner.

I drafted the email that was sent from the board by MSGL administration today. In the email, my name was replaced with the board’s signature. (I agreed to that change beforehand.) However, I did not agree that my email address would be removed from the email as a point of contact. For that reason, I’m sharing this here.

The president and vice-president resigned from the board this spring. The president, Kate Lade-Markley, resigned on April 11. After Kate resigned, I (Andrea Morris, vice-president) served as interim president. I resigned from the board on April 30. Heather Wilson is now serving as interim board president. Current board members are: Oliver Beers, Lucy Fluellen, Sarah Gotland, and Gloribel Rosales-Burdin, Ripam Singh, and Heather Wilson. Two board members will return for the 2023-24 school year: Lucy Fluellen and Sarah Gotland. Gloribel Rosales-Burdin is finishing her two-year term and will not be running again (as was presented on this year’s ballot).

If you have questions about the changes, please reach out to board@msgl.org or me at wags2182@gmail.com.

There has been much discussion from the current board members about “moving forward and not rehashing the past.” In this case, “moving forward” feels like a euphemism for sweeping past events under the rug. It’s not fair to parents to keep information about what happens at school from them. Until I see that the board is addressing harmful situations adequately, I will keep looking for ways to encourage parents to ask questions about what has happened at MSGL this school year and how those situations were addressed by the board and by administration. I will continue to do this unless or until my husband and I decide to instead enroll our son at WLES for the 2023-24 school year.

Again, I'm sorry for not making you all aware of the changes to the board sooner; I take responsibility for not having communicated important information when I was interim president. Communication and transparency are critical aspects of governance for our parent-run, non-profit school.

Thank you for being part of the MSGL community.

Sincerely,

Andrea Morris
former MSGL Board Vice-President and Interim President
