Chasing trends
We don't have to constantly run after the great options of the day.
I listened to a random (but quite good) podcast on an peaceful, solo evening dash to Walgreens. (Time in the car without my 4 year old is rare and blissful).
Marcia Kilgore, who apparently has been a central figure of the beauty industry for decades, said,
“I learned early on what fits my body, what looks good on me, what kind of haircut is flattering for me. And I may have switched and tried a few things over the years, but always found that I’d go back to the same thing.
“And I think that your personal style, you can cement it early on. It’s your comfort zone, and it makes you feel confident. And trying to constantly run after something to look like everybody else is really not the best use of your energy or your spirit.”
Love it! Same goes for small business marketing, of course. There are dozens of ways to promote a business, and they're nearly all good in some way for some businesses...but we don't have to constantly run after the great options of the day.
It's not the best use of our energy or our spirit.
