Low-carb, high-fat

Let’s decide on our most important "protocols" for ourselves.


Have you ever tried to go on a diet someone else created and convinced you to do? I'm thinking Weight Watchers, paleo, keto, Atkins. Unless it was prescribed by a doctor and is medically necessary (like for managing diabetes), lots of people find it's pretty hard to stick to someone else's diet plan. WebMD writes, "Falling off the diet wagon is almost a given."

I'm in this right now. My health coach is strongly encouraging me to adopt a low-carb, no-grain, high-fat, and high-protein "food protocol" to lose weight and stop cravings and a bunch of other benefits.

I don't doubt those outcomes, but I'm not on board. I know I'd likely swing wildly back to my Honey Nut Cheerios and grocery store cookies after the 12-week coaching program is finished.

Why? I'm not invested in it. I haven't researched this protocol against others, decided it's the best for me, and made it my decision. (Frankly, I'm not even convinced it's healthy.)


We can't pour ourselves into research and careful consideration for every decision we have to make...but for the important ones, like long-term diet, household budget, career path — and yes, even doing marketing for your business — it's almost always best to set aside a defined amount of time, do our research, sit thoughtfully with what we've learned, and then decide on our "protocol" for ourselves.
